First of all, I am still sitting here trying to take this all in. I mean I have to be honest......I gave them 6 wins at most for the season. Then when they got to 6-2 and lost the two in a row, I have to admit that doubt creeped in and memories of many a good start wasted came rushing back.
Think about what the Saints have accomplished this season, after last season. I mean Payton still has a lot of work (I am sure, in his mind) that he plans on doing with this team. He has a ton of picks to work with next year (even though they will picking post 20th overall), the team is in good cap position to re-sign guys like Charles Grant and they have something here that free agents are going to want to join.
Look at the Saints offense. Wow, Drew Brees, even with a measly (for him) 185 yards today he still leads the NFL in passing by nearly 400 yards. Deuce can still get to 1,000 yards for the season by averaging 86.5 per game in his last four.....not bad since he has about 70 carries less than most of the other big time backs in the league. Marques Colston is STILL ninth in the NFL in receiving yards even having missed the last three games with the dreaded "sprained ankle." I could go on and on.
Here's something crazy to watch. The Saints could have FOUR players break the 1,000 yards from scrimmage mark. I can think of some teams who have had three easy, but not four in one season.
Deuce is 27th in the NFL with 939, probably gets there next week.
Reggie is tied for 29th in the NFL with R. Mexico with 930, he also should get there next week.
Colston is tied for 39th in the NFL with 869, and would have been there two weeks ago without the ankle. He'll get there.
Joe is in 33rd in the NFC with 679. He has the most work to do, especially with the lingering injuries. He needs a little over 80 yards per game to get there.
It's just amazing to think about.
