With IR rules, what game is he eligible to return?

So pardon my ignorance, why would we put him somewhere
that he's eligible to return Week 9.......when he's really ready to return earlier than that?

Because the Saints needed the roster space. Even now, they are carrying one defense player (Breaux) with a broken leg on the active roster and LB who hasn't been healthy enough to practice.
