Rattler has to start! (1 Viewer)

You have to be talking about 2017 because they haven't done squat since then.
That's a ridiculous take.

In 2019 We drafted Erik McCoy and Ceedy Duece
in 2020 We drafted Ruiz and Baun
in 2021 We drafted Werner and Adebo
in 2022 we drafted Olave and Penning and Taylor
in 2023 we drafted Bresee and Howden
in 2024 we drafted Fuaga and Kool Aid

That's 6 straight drafts where we drafted 2 or more starters.

That's hardly "squat"

But they're not First Team All God starters. They're not hitting on 100% of their picks. They should all be fired!

yeah the only problems w/ the drafts is we just haven't had more ammo, but they tend to trade away depth picks to fill spots that don't have established starters.

2018 draft - 2 top 100 pick
2019 draft - 1 top 100 pick
2020 draft - 2 Top 100 picks
2021 draft - 3 top 100 picks
2022 draft - 3 top 100 picks
2023 draft - 3 top 100 picks
2024 draft - 2 top 100 picks

2017 draft 5 top 100 picks. That's under Ireland, at his best he needs more picks. 2015 was a mulligan IMHO where they had 4, but he was also using data/scouts from the previous regime. The 2016 draft first 4 were Thomas, Rankins, Onyemata, and Vonn Bell.

If were being honest it was the 2016 and 2017 draft classes plus the 2018 Free agent class that rebuilt the team and put us back on the map for another sustained run.
Trey Hendrickson, Demario Davis, Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, Ryan Ramczyk, Marshon Lattimore, Alex Anzalone, Vonn Bell, Marcus Williams, were all added to the team

Preaching to the choir. Expecting to get starters while not having as much ammo as a team that simply keeps their draft picks has hurts a lot. Add in they've spent a total of four top 100 picks on Edge rushers since 2018 and all look like embarrassing busts, they just need to either A. overhaul how they evaluate the "Edge Rusher" position or B. just stop drafting that position lol.

Not an excuse, just pointing out that they are better at drafting when the have a high # of picks, and aren't trying to move up and select specific players. So I fully expect them to try and get a few more picks during the off-season to go along w/ what we ultimately end up w/.

That's their strategy. They're still doing it. They did it this year with Kool-Aid. They target players and move up every year. I don't think it's going to change until we change the people making those decisions.

CJGJ is gone. Baun was not a starter for us. Howden was 3rd team this year. Kool-Aid is only a starter due to injury. But if two starter quality players a year is successful in your mind, we aren't going to win very much. Right now we need immediate starters at about 6-8 positions.

How many quality starters do you think the Chiefs draft per year?

No fact, I'd argue they'll have no other choice in FA but to bargain bin shop. It's irritating because when I look at DA's defenses and how he plays ball, piling that many resources into the DE position seems dumb. The players that play the most snaps in this D are the Back 7. the DE's and DT's primarily rotate alot w/ Cam playing his iron man role for years. Add that in w/ DA dropping utilizing 3 man front a lot and it just seems like a poor use of resources.

Seems like it would make more sense to draft back 7 talent and find bargain bin Edge Guys that are available via trade or in FA.

I'm looking at our 2019 roster and it was youthful, specifically in the back 7. Outside of DD and Cam nobody was over 30 years of age in the starting unit. Defense is just old and slow.

I don't have an issue w/ it when it's 2nd roudn or later. Those don't hurt and they are usually pretty spot on, case in point would be Kamara when they moved up to select him int he 2nd round. Their worst draft picks have been moving up in the 1st round and targeting players based on need vs value. They didn't need Kool-Aid, he was just good value. They didn't need Kamara he was good value, etc.

When they've traded up becuase they need a starter is when they get caught up.

Kamara you’re going back to 2017. I’ve conceded that 2017 was a great draft. Since then they’ve been average at best. 1 or 2 starters per year on a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in going on 4 years. No great players. No all-pros. Just average starters. I can name 6-8 spots where we need starters now. We’re just never going to get caught up at the rate we’re going.

Am I the only one seeing Haener throw the ball like a middle schooler if it’s over 20yds ? What are y’all seeing because it doesn’t seem like he can make the throws. Rattler hasn’t had the weapons or blocking available to him for us to say “welp he ain’t it”. He also played with less talent against our toughest opponents on the season
If Haener is middle school the Rattler was Elementary.

SMH no one is saying every pick has to be all-pro or even pro bowl. You think just because they are starting for a mediocre team that those picks are hits. I said to you in a different post that we only have 2 players in the top 20 at their positions, Lattimore and Honey Badger and we didn't draft him
