Led by Billick, Offense Back to Work

OWINGS MILLS, Md., Oct. 23 -- Any sense of shock the Baltimore Ravens felt when they first heard their offensive coordinator had been fired last week had faded by the time they stepped onto the practice field Monday morning. It was time to get back to work, time to start fixing their struggling offense.
Coach Brian Billick dismissed Jim Fassel as offensive coordinator last Tuesday during the Ravens' bye week and assumed control of the league's 28th-ranked offense. Several players expressed surprise at the decision -- the Ravens, after all, are 4-2 and tied with Cincinnati for first in the AFC North, and Billick and Fassel are longtime friends -- but they also felt some sort of change was needed to shake up the offense. And with two weeks between games, the timing was right.
"Something was necessary," said Pro Bowl tackle Jonathan Ogden, whose frustration with the offense has been noticeable on the sidelines during a couple of games this season. "We were stagnant; we couldn't get things going. It was a little drastic, I suppose, but something had to be done along those lines."
