Thomas Morstead will play his 11th season with the New Orleans Saints this fall, making the 33-year-old punter the longest tenured player with the team other than quarterback Drew Brees. One player he works most closely with his placekicker Wil Lutz, a 24-year-old with three seasons of NFL experience.
On Wednesday, the Saints rewarded Lutz for having the most accurate kicking season in franchise history with a new five-year contract that keeps him with the team for the foreseeable future.
With that, Morstead offered a note of congratulations that included what he said was a “Dad mode” message directed at the kicker.
“You know that big chip that sits on your shoulder... please leave it there,” Morstead wrote. “Keep testing yourself, comfort leads to complacency.”
