Real Estate/floodplain question, re: New Orleans (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the link. I could only find the 1999 map for my area, which lists me as in a Zone C. I buy it anyway, but noticed about a $100 increase when I renew, so thought maybe I was rezoned.

I see a place for "future" FEMA issued flood maps, but it says "not available." :( I sort of remember one in the newspaper a while back. Just a note about checking the dates, because these are outdated...

Edit: Might be helpful:

Good one for elevations in Orleans Parish: http://lamp.lsuagcenter.com/?FIPS=22071

Definitely check with building department. They're in the process of changing rates and requirements and you don't want to be on the wrong side of the number with talk of policies for being below the new requirements up over $20k/yr.

Best advice I can give you....spend $200 getting the land surveyed. Explain to the surveyor that you are interested in ensuring that you are above the Base Flood Elevation, and show him approximately where the house will be constructed.

He'll be able to tell you exactly how much you need to build up to ensure you are good.
