REFORMATTING XP TODAY - need help (1 Viewer)

I need to know what spyware/malware, programs I need to download and install so as I don't get the little buggers into my system. I will be running McAffee from AOL, IE7, win XP......thanks, Fred

spybot and adaware are what I use.

agree with above and add Grisoft AVG Antivirus it's free, for spybot make sure it's spybot s&d from safer-networking and of course adware is from lavasoft

Get rid of McAfee. AVG and Avast are both good (pick one) and free. Windows Defender (microsoft) is also free and more important than Spybot (although that's good too). Use Firefox over IE when possible and you will have way less problems. If you are connecting directly (bad idea) turn on Windows Firewall (or get another, but that should be sufficient). Run all of your Windows updates.

I disagree with ya buzd, spybot is more important IMHO.

I do agree though, drop macafee. Unless, you have a lot of subscription time left, then use it up, you may as well, you payed for it.

CCleaner is a pretty cool little jewel too. Cleans up junk files and cleans the registry.
Oh, and Grisoft (the makers of AVG) have a Spyware cleaner too.
It's pretty nice in my opinion.
