I think we should use this play first trip to the red zone on Sunday. Why? With how much of a debacle it turned out to be, and all the talk about it being "too cute", Tampa has to think that thing's been scratched out of the playbook.

They'll never expect it

I thought the play call was nice, but maybe throwing into double coverage was a rookie move. The Ravens arent to be trifled with like that. I think the other RBs would've tucked it.

This play will be very effective once Bush or Deuce is cramming it down the throats of their opponent. Until that happens why would the opposing teams secondary respect our running game enough to leave the WR open?

I have more faith in Brees to Horn or Colston without getting "cute".

I'm hoping something like this won't be needed.

I think that is a good idea. You are correct, they will not be looking for that play from us. I think we may have run the play from the wrong spot on the field because if things go bad you are taking points off the board.

Reggie made a pretty bad decision in the Rose Bowl with that lateral.

He's young and just doing what the play call was to do. Maybe with a little more experience he'll tuck it next time.

That's a pretty tough pass for a non QB. Most HB passes there no out of bounds behind them. Usually the receiver is running free behind the defense. In this case, the whole play was limitted by the back of the end zone.

That's exactly what happened. Not only that, but the field is so short that getting a receiver truly one on one without help is very unlikely.

That play call was about as smart as looking into the barrel of your own gun to figure out why it's not firing......

And he admitted it..... I think his good play calling has outweighed his bad by far.

Not trying to be saracastic, but if it had worked would you feel the same way?

I understand the idea that had the play worked, we'd all be raving about it. But I just think that against a defense like the Ravens, you really have to get your points when you have the chance. A halfback option with a rookie is bit reckless in my opinion- under the circumstances. If we had a lead, or if Bush had been running well enough to draw committed defenders, it might be different.

But under the circumstances, I think the play call was foolish. Like you said though, Payton admitted as much, and probably learned from it.

I also think where Reggie is concerned, that he is forcing some things on runs and obviously that pass. I think Reggie has had so much success in his life and has been lucky so much that he doesn't think about the bad things that can happen on a play because they never happen to him. I think maybe with that pass, he was thinking, I have good luck on my side so I am gonna throw this thing up and my guy is gonna catch it cause that is how my life goes. I think this is happening with his runs too. He is trying some moves that in the past were successfull and they are not working in the NFL so he is forcing the issue. He just has to settle down and not try to hit the homerun on every play. He just needs to be a runningback. Every play does not have to be a highlight. Sometimes we just need a first down. When he starts to settle down what will happen is, he will just by trying to get the first down and something is gonna break and he will take it to the house. Let the game come to you Reggie. Don't force it, it will come sooner than you think. I guarantee he is frustrated because things came so easy to him forever. He could make the risky move, throw the ball that shouldn't have been thrown, run the wrong way on the play and still score because he was a man amongst boys and was somewhat lucky along with talented. It is all just part of growing up in the NFL.

If the ball had been thrown to the outside edge of the endzone (closer to the front right corner), it would've been a touchdown.

I refused to call the play choice dumb, due to the possibility of the WR being open. Matrix had the option of running. The pass was dumb, and I've seen many QBs sling picks like that to negate scoring drives. I'm sure they practiced that play, and had positive results.

I've been thinking this. Then, the call would've been sheer genius.
