Report: Jimmy Graham and Saints Have Not Talked New Contract (1 Viewer)

Funny thing is Brees is not even in the top 5 of QBs as far as cap hit this season. Loomis structured it pretty well. Whats hurting us now is the big spending last season and old bloated contracts like smith, vilma, and harper.

You are right, but his cap hit in 2 years looks scary.

No reason to worry . No advantage to signing him now. If we waited to sign Brees why would we sign Graham early.
He's looking for top dollars today, tomorrow, or next year. So...

True..but that time has passed.

Cuz that means jimmy would have to be willing to listen...but if i was him Id go into next year with the intentions of blowing everyone out the water. He'll get paid either way. If he would have had a better year this year i think it would have been a win win for everyone...but Jimmy seemed mentally out of it...or injured depending on how u look @ it.

You don't reward a guy after they type of season he had........he could have had over 100 catche and 1000 or so yards.

Yeah, because 982 yards is so terrible compared to 1000 and only 85 catches to do it.

Seriously. He dropped a few balls, but you're acting as if 18 yards on an additional 15 catches makes any difference at all. And, he was hurt to the point he's had to have surgery.

Why should they talk? He had a down year, and the Saints are strapped for cash. It would be smarter for both parties to come to the table next year when they can put more skin in the game.

Now I don't disagree, it can be debated both ways.

Saints perspective: If they sign him now, they might be able to save millions, maybe even into 8 digit territory. Say if he has a season similar to 2011, he could be looking closer towards WR money than TE money.

Jimmy perspective: Do I take less guaranteed money now for security? Say he gets seriously injured next year and can't play again; he's out of MEGA money.

But you are right, Saints do not have a lot of money to spend; but in Loomis I trust.

You are missing the point.

Those dropped balls could have gone for 1st downs @ critical moments...Several of them actually. Its not about the amount of balls he could have caught or yards he could have gained...he had an off year. Thats a FACT.

Im not saying he had a horrible year but it wasn't wat has come to be expected of him

So as a GM why would i go out and want to reward you after a subpar year compared to the lofty standards you've already set.

Packers didn't do it for Finley and i don't see the point of doing it for Jimmy.

Like i said..we have a history of making guys play out their contracts anyway...above all.. So if he comes out and performs next year he will be rewarderd. Thats basically a guarantee.

Isn't it a little early anyway? Remember, the Saints are going to be behind every single team in terms of decisions like that. Has anyone seen a big extension yet?

JG was injured early and played anyway. If he had the surgery before it would have been zero dropped balls but also zero yards, 1st downs, TD's, too. Mr Graham is a STUD and will be signed when we have the monies to do so. No hurry.
