Yes, Wilson's contract is flat out cheap. Even after the salary cap purge this year the Saints still should have enough talent in their prime to compete for a Superbowl. The Saints hit on their 2017 first rounders but their last two haven't been that impressive so far.
I would do it in a heartbeat and not look back. This gives us another 10+ years of MVP-level QB play. Look at what Stafford brought in and he's not nearly as good as Wilson.
If he gets traded, the team picking him up would only be on the hook for $19M this coming year, $24M in 2022, and $27M in 2023 with the included $5M roster bonuses in 2022 and 2023 (so base salaries of $19M and $22M in those years).
Also for those still on the fence, Wilson has been in the league for 9 years, never had a losing season, and 10+ wins in 8 of those years.
Absolutely. You have to make that deal. When you have the opportunity to get a franchise QB I couldn't place unproven kids above that. 1st round picks don't always pan out. And if you are a good team with Watson those picks should almost be like 2nd rounders.
Saints would become super bowl favorites similar to tampa last year. It would absolutely be worth 3 firsts for a franchise qb who if he continues to play this well will have a HoF worthy career
