RIP Neil Peart (1 Viewer)

Just a reminder for anyone that had forgotten - not only was Neil a unique drum virtuoso, he was also the band’s lyricist.

Rush lyrics = Peart words
yeah was going to say that there will mostly be a best bvs top 3 drummer debate that dominates
but he should also be recognized as (probably) top 5 rock lyricist

I will always say that he (and by extension Rush) wrote Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” when they wrote Limelight.

I don't have anything new to add. Other than Paul Simon, he was probably the most influential songwriter in my life. I don't generally get sad when celebrities I don't personally know and who aren't actively creating art that I love die, but this is probably as close as it gets for me.

The step-change in lyrics from Rush's first album to Fly By Night is pretty hilarious.

From

"They call me the workin' man.
I guess that's what I am."

to

"Moon rise, thoughtful eyes
Staring back at me from the window beside
No fright or hindsight
Leaving behind that empty feeling inside "

RIP Neil - an absolute original in every sense. This is terrible news.
