RIP Pete Finney (1 Viewer)

I was fortunate enough to meet Pete and talk to him a few times. He was a really gracious guy, and did not share the haughty and self-important attitude of many of his fellow columnists.

I remember a specific instance where some younger writers (from a publication that shall remain nameless) were laughing at him because he was kind of doddering around, old man-style, and not moving fast enough for them. A wire guy - they still exist! - told them, "Y'all couldn't hold Pete's jock, then or now!" It was awesome.

He outlived the era that he helped define, that of the old school sports reporter and columnist that didn't depend on click-bait hot takes to survive.

It also didn't hurt that he was a great, evocative writer that understood how to say his piece economically and eloquently. RIP to a true New Orleans legend.

Always loved Pete. Happy to know he was able to see the team win SB44.

truly a great man and writer

Not too far back I went fishing with Nash Robert's son and racked the reds. I read Finney every chance I got, great spirit in that man. Bless him and his family. Will be missed always.

Les is my uncle, here is an article he wrote about Pete Finney.
