Robert Quinn Should Be The Priority Free Agent (1 Viewer)

Offer him an incentive-based deal that rewards him for sack production and explain to him the benefits of getting low base pay to match the low run defense snaps.
Ahhh, right, that old unicorn. Good thing players are happy to have things 'explained' to them and don't just listen to their agents.

I wish this thread a good day, I'm out.

Yea but problem is Quinn is on his last payday coming off an 11 Sack season 31 and will command a 4-5 year deal north of 13 million a year if your gonna pay that type of money may as well go get Clowney on a 15 mil a year deal and stop the games

I’d much rather Anasah or Obagah on 1-2 year prove it deals worth 4-6 million a year and just hope Davenport breaks out to give us a nasty 3 man combo.Use the other half on getting a DT

idk what it is But to me Seattle D this year wasn’t Pashtun friendlyI think Anasah and Clowney are better than the numbers states

we still have to address DT Brown was ok , Rankins we don’t know when he’ll be ready anddon’t want to rush him back again. Omenyeta a FA , Edwards is avg

I think the defense is built for Championship if it can stay healthy and quit making silly mistakes. Davenport was getting in the backfield making plays but would get hit with a penalty. Anzalone was showing real good as well before he got hurt. If Lattimore does not get hurt in Minnesota by his own teammate we win that game. Just my two cents but Quinn is going to ask for too much $$$. If you can get him on a one year prove it incentive laden deal, I am in, I just do not see it happening.

For rotation only though. He started out well in Dallas and really dropped off in the latter.

We need a situational pass rusher. I wouldn't pursue Quinn if I needed an every down starter. I know Dallas can't afford him and we were his pick had he not signed with Dallas. (Emanuel Sanders' second option too???)

But I feel you on the Quinn dough. It will be steep. I think it would be in his best interest to take a lower base pay in a situation that asks him to take a lower number of run down snaps that gives him bonuses for reaching certain sack totals.

Ok, Ok, Ok, you've talked me off of the Robert Quinn train.

Lets go get Vic Beasley and make him our pass rush specialist. Keep him out of edge setting responsibilities in the run game and he'll shine.

GOOD POST. And normally I would agree with your approach, but I think we're too close to the title to be patient with potential. I think we have to add an explosive play-maker to this defense that refreshes the whole unit mentally. And lets say we do beat Minny, do we go to GB and win? Or SF the following week and win?

As of now our top explosive-type speed rusher is Trey Hendrickson. #94 just might be the top all around edge in the league as far as two-way play, but he needs help. Of our 51 sacks, I wonder how many came from calls that just sent our front four? I would guess not many. But when you live off of getting cute Theilen happens. But imagine if we complimented Cam with a guy that was an even better pass rusher than him? Our good defense would suddenly become great! Quinn quietly has been one of the top pass rushers of this era. And don't get me wrong, I love Davenport, Hendrickson and Granderson as prospects, but that title is sitting right there for the taking. Davenport would be the run down edge and slide inside on passing downs. A third and long front of Cam, Davenport, Rankins and Quinn would be absolutely nasty!! Robert Quinn dictates tempo, he doesn't react to it. A TONE SETTER! Put TCU's corner Jeff Gladney with Latty and a restructured JackRabbit with that four bringing pressure and it is absolute HELL for opposing offenses on third and longs. If you can win with just four you get teams off the field on third downs and DBs play a lot more confidently. If we can't land Quinn, keep an eye on Vic Beasley. I think he can be Quinn like as a rush specialist. Just keep him away from all edge setting responsibilities in the run game. Bring back Klein, get Anzalone healthy and what we have just described is not a good, but quite possibly a GREAT DEFENSE. After a few shut outs maybe Coach P might actually start calling an offense to compliment the defense. TWO DAT!!
Quinn or Beasley would be a great addition and could be had at a team friendly price. Welcome BTW to Saintsreport. I remember and enjoyed reading your posts at NOLA.COM/Saints

I think a healthy lineup of Jordan, Rankins, Brown and Davenport is one of the best lineups in the league. You have Onyemata and Hendrickson in reserve. I realize health has been a question mark, but I'm not ready to spend major money on a minor upgrade.

I'll buy going after Quinn, as he should have chosen NOLA instead of Dallas; I'm laughing at him for thinking he made the right decision then. That said, I'd cut Anzalone, because all that guy will do is look like he is on the verge of being a good player then be unavailble for the rest of the season - ask Florida. It's not 2 seasons with the Saints, snakebitten. It's his entire college and pro career. Time to move on and give the reps, the coaching, the roster spot to someone who can actually be counted on to be available. Greatest ability is availability. I'd love Jack Rabbit to restructure; not sure he'd be so willing. Quinn came out the gate a really good pass rusher, despite the way his career at UNC ended; he balled out under his rookie deal. He never really had a bad season IMO; if you play him in the position he's best at, he's pretty good, and if you play him out of position like Miami, he's not bad. As for Vic Beasley, I'd guess Falcon fans feel the same way about him as many Saints fans feel about Andrus Peat. I don't mind a low risk 2 or 3 year deal with that guy (even if salary is double digits... on the low end), but I'd never give that guy premium pass rusher money.

Point is neither of those guys are going to be cheap; I expect Quinn to get paid more (despite being older), but I'd guess both get deals averaging more money than Jimmy Graham per year. Probably a good deal more, because pass rushers are very hard to find on the market, and everyone wants one (more). With Ram and Latt and Bell and AK (who I do believe the Saints will trade), I don't see how the Saints can afford to add a FA at XX million per year.

Don't we say this every year?

"If only Anzalone, Rankins, and Davenport can stay healthy for a whole season"

Anzalone - Has had season ending surgery 2 of his 3 seasons.

Rankins - injured in 3 of his 4 seasons.

Davenport - foot injuries in Both of his two seasons so far..

Maybe it's time to bring in some quality insurance plans for these guys instead of hoping the stars align and all 3 make it through an entire season and play 16 games + playoffs with full availability.

Rankins - injured in 3 of his 4 seasons.
Am I looking at the wrong information, because according to his career stats, Rankins has played all 16 games 2 out of his 4 years? And overall played 51 of 64 games.

Assuming there must be a playoff injury in there somewhere.

Either way, every player is hurt in the NFL to some degree and I'd say Rankins has given us a pretty good level of availability all told.

2016 - Rookie year missed the first 7 games with a Broken Fibula suffered in pre-season
2018 - Suffered a Torn-Achilles in the Divisional round playoffs after a career regular season (was unvailable for the NFC Championship game)
2019 - Undisclosed Ankle Injury suffered in Week 14 ended season on Injured Reserve

2017 was the only season so far he hasn't suffered a significant Lower body injury, 2018 he was injured in the Week 17 regular season against Carolina and didn't return, then tore his Achilles in the Divisional Round against the Eagles.

I would think his availability and future prognosis looks more promising than Anzalone, and Davenport as far as staying on the field but the fact of the matter is he has been unavailable down the stretch for the most crucial games that matter, the playoff games the last two seasons; and there is a trend that all his injuries are Lower extremity injuries.

I’ve admired his game for years. I wish we could get Fowler Jr. Idk if they inked him long term tho.

Totally agree. I’d love to be wrong but I think Alex is done. Recurring major shoulder injuries for a LB do not bode well for a long career.
