I was thinking that maybe he declined but recommended Rob Ryan because they have worked together with the Patriots and Browns

Nahh...

THe same people reporting that Crennel was on the list are the same people reporting that Ryan is a done deal.

I find that hard to believe. I have every reason to believe that Grantham has been the target all along but we would do our due diligence. Rex has been available for quite some time. WE could have brought him in on an interview last week. Doesn't mean we had to hire him.

The fact that his interview is scheduled the day after Grantham's tells me that if Grantham comes in and Wows payton then the job is his. If not then we will move on to Rex Ryan who will most likely be the immediate fallback option.

Red Flags or not you still want a guy that the players will play for. Romeo isn't coaching anywhere and the other guys were blocked from interviews. So these are our only 2 options.

Ryan would be a familiar fallback as far as the coaching tree goes so we kind of know what we are getting.

Mark my font........Grantham will be the coordinator.

Crennels 2 gap is a bad fit for our current personnel.

^
This... Was hoping we'd get Crennel because of his personality and track record but his "flavor" of 3-4 doesn't jive with our personnel... even though we have an entire offseason to fix that.

I find it very hard to believe that the Saints didn't have some sort of conversation with him, either directly or indirectly. Makes no sense not to at least talk to one of the best candidates out there.

Does anyone remember what was the last thing coach or the front office said about the DC position?

Was it that we would wait until after the superbowl or something like that?

Were any names ever mentioned by the Saints?

Not being a smart Alec, I honestly don't remember them naming anyone.

Could be. We are interviewing Grantham at the very earliest time he could interview, the day after signing day. We could have already signed Ryan if we wanted. I think Grantham has a fighting chance.
