Saints will keep Taysom, look to add edge rushers and NT, Penning staying at RT and Saints will be a lot more active in free agency. Look for Carr to restructure to make cap room for free agency.

Big Yikes. They really clawing for a 10 win season at best.

Contrary to popular SR belief, NFL teams outside of maybe the top 3 or 4 teams aren't out here with a "14-3 and HFA or bust" mindset.

It's odd to me that a fan would turn his nose up at the prospects of a 10 win season being a goal for a first year HC, especially since 10 wins in our division likely equates to a home playoff game.

Anything can happen in this league.

Great read. Some really good nuggets of info in there. Thanks for posting.

I don't think it's that. We'll, kinda....though that's not a bad thing. It's moreso because there's a totally new staff running s totally new offense and defense. I'd expect there to be a lot of surprises as the team gets remade into the coach's vision. It doesn't mean that they'll be huge spenders. It just means that guys the old regime were high on that were locks to be back, may not be back. For example....and I do mean EXAMPLE, there's no insider info or prognostication in this example, it's just for the sake of an example... If DA was still here, there's no chance the team would move on from Pete Werner. As we go into the off season, fans haven't quite adjusted to the new norm. We could almost predict many of the moves the Saints would make because we knew the tendencies. We knew the offense and defense backwards and forwards. And when DA became coach, it WAS the same game plan. There was no roster expectation adjustment needed to be made by fans. But with new coaches? We should expect totally different evaluations. People who were safe before aren't safe. Players who know the offense and defense aren't here yet. No, the roster won't be totally transformed in one off season, but there will be more changes than we'd see in a typical off season. This means that Werner (just pulling a name out of the hat for an example) could surprisingly not be in the plans. He's a potential trade candidate or cut or whatever. We should expect the roster will look different.

"But what about the salary cap!?!" Long sigh...I'm giving up on explaining that so don't look at me.

I said "AT BEST"

Which would require hitting on FA, Draft picks, and coaches while missing injuries.

Last I check... We need to rebuild our dline with one of the worst rush defenses in the league. Need 2 starting caliber CBs. Starting Safety. Probably another quality LB. A starting LG, RB, TE, and probably one more WR with Olave being a concussion away from retirement.

On top of a veteran QB, and RB that can't stay healthy and are extremely fragile. Then, you have your 35 year old gadget QB coming off a horrific knee injury.

Like can we just be in a real... The FA that Saints are getting are either probably mid level or injury prone at best.

In a perfect world, they push the cap beyond a sustainable method for a mid team that at best can only get you 10 wins with no little ability to grow from there.

Those 10 win really worked out for the NY Giants and Daboll, right?

Can we get out of this fantasy land of "We magically improve" and make noise. Tell me how they are going to do that while running back the same team as last year with a lot less talent. Then, tell me how they are going to be able to build and maintain a core from there.

We got into that situation where our only option is to hit on draft pick and we drafted Trevor Penning and such that need years to develop.

Okay Nostradamus.

I’ve said this before, but winning the division and making yourself a consistent playoff team is always the goal. Winning the Super Bowl is the DREAM, and this quote below is coming from a guy that just won a Super Bowl.

Don’t turn your nose up at a 10 win season, ever.

That was a whole lotta run it back with the same squad and new coaches to me. We knew Loomis wouldn't admit making a mistake hiring DA because it took Gayle to fire him. Is Gayle going to have to run the personnel department as well?

And I won't put any of this on Moore yet. He just got here and got a big ol' fat raise and has to go with the flow.

Good stuff. I'm glad to see a direction start to take shape. Keeping Carr makes sense and if anything, it keeps us out of reaching for a QB in this draft.

I've said multiple times, we need to double dip at TE and this is the draft to do it.

Penning staying at RT is good, he can continue to develop. Signing Becton in FA would be a huge addition and lock up RG or LG. I like drafting Belton to play the opposite G position from Becton.

Or perhaps he’s watched endless amounts of tape, has had far more detailed salary cap discussions, and has an overall more educated view on the subjects at hand than you or any of us here???

Claw all they want, they ain’t getting to ten unless they hit a home run in the draft. That would be awesome tho.

You and I are usually on opposing ends of the spectrum with our views about the team..lately at least, having said that I agree with ya here. I’d love 10 wins, would always be happy with 10 and in. Anything can happen in that scenario as you stated.
