RUMOR - Cowboys shopping DE Spears and LB Carpenter at Senior Bowl (1 Viewer)

Carpenter is a good football player, but he really isn't suited well at all for the 3-4 defense. Very similar to Fujita.

Can Carpenter play MLB? He's got the size, and the reports on him said he was good at taking on and shedding blockers... and a solid tackler.

Otherwise, I'd be willing to bet money he's more athletic and has more upside than Shanle.

The Saints and Benson have the money every team made at least 100 million in profits this year. It is a matter of whether they want to spend it.

ok guys, this whole perception about small market teams and whether we can shell out "real money" is wrong. We had the third highest payroll in actual payouts in the league this year. i heard that on sports talk last week. the saints have been really smart with spending but remember the cap is complicated. in future years we have Drew, Reggie, Deuce and Charles Grant's contract taking up chunks not to mention Marques, Will and Jahri need to be signed. That being said, in the league when a ridiculous contract a la nate clements last year is being doled out, how many times has that been legit or worth it? what was the ROI? Especially for teams like the redskins.

per Mike D, after the resigning of the player we want to keep, Smith and Colston as part of that the 20 mill is actually about 18 mill.

then you have to worry about next year so some money wont be spent if the deals signed this off season put us in the hole next off season those deals wont be done which may leave some cap room unused, unless you can find some 1 year deal players that are worth signing - that can happen through out the season as well.

but according to Mike D. that is the situation for every team with a lot of cap space - so the 18 mill available is still good and among the leaders in terms of cap space.

paying the players isnt the issue - getting them to sign here is - luckily we have a good team so we offer a chance to win, have a great fan base and N.O.as a city seems to be well liked by the players that come here - we do have a state tax though which affects salary - all in all we have as good of a chance as anyone for the top FAs.
