Saints: 21 penalties for 244 yards in eight quarters (1 Viewer)

No last night proved its not just the refs. This team is sloppy and undisciplined. How many times do they have to get called for hands to the face before they start emphasizing hand placement? How many times do they have to tell Apple to play the ball and not the receiver so he doesn't get PI every time a pass is thrown his way? How many times do you have to tell the blockers on special teams that if you see the name on the back of the opponents jersey don't block them? Its the same thing week after week and its getting frustrating.. People can cry about refs and conspiracies but they are mostly doing it to themselves.

Not to say the refs were all wrong but I did witness at least 3 hands to the face by the Dirties last night that didn’t get flagged.

Especially the simultaneous one on the last called that was so obvious the announcing crew had to comment.

Almost every time we've had a big return, we get called for a block in the back or an illegal block of some kind. It's become a joke. The other teams apparently never do this when they play us. Same thing with intentional grounding. Brees gets called for it, but how many times have we seen another QB do it in games against us but not get called. The officiating was better last night than in the first Atlanta game b/c at least we didn't have the phantom hands to the face calls or holding calls almost every drive, but I still think the refs are being extra critical with us and looking for things to call.

A lot of them are just. But there’s 2 reasons to still blame refs (in part)

1) they only show the good calls on replay, so we’re not seeing replays of the lousy calls which clouds our perception and

2) it’s also the no calls on the other team that hurt. Not sure a hold has been called against Cam all season and we see it happening on 1/3 of his plays.

The block in the back was a legit call last night. Watch the replay, it was sloppy technique on a block which had no bearing on that play. Blocks in The black are stupid undisciplined penalties. Special teams has become a stupid undisciplined unit. But I think Payton had enough of that last night. He was beyond pissed at that last onsides kick.

Also that intentional grounding was absolutely correct also. Brees was in the box. The ball landed between the lines with no one in the world around it. Notice how Brees didn’t even try to argue it. He couldn’t. It was a dumb play.

The officiating will start costing us eventually. Yes you can overcome 100 penalty yds vs losing teams but in the playoffs no way.

Yikes. This has to be addressed - and the answer isn’t just “the refs!”

Vs. CAR: 12 / 123
@ ATL: 9 / 121

Hey we brought it down to 3 less penalties and 2 less yards. That is some progress.

All jokes aside it does need some work especially with the 49ers coming to town.
