With the New Orleans Saints promoting cornerback Brian Dixon to the active roster, they opened a spot on the practice squad, and they filled it quickly.

Defensive end Chris McCain, who was with the team briefly this summer, is back with the team on the practice squad, according to a source.

The Saints traded a conditional seventh-round pick in late August to acquire McCain, but he didn't make the 53-man roster, which meant they kept the pick.
