We were in sole possession of it last week too.

Last week

1. Saints (4-1)
2. Panthers (3-1)
3. Buccaneers (2-2)
4. Falcons (1-4)

Saints have to put on their "Big Boy Pants" for the next 4 games, three of which are on the road... and ALL of them are vs. teams currently in first place:

@ Ravens & Bengals, both are tied atop the AFC North
@ Vikings: technically in 2nd place, but Vikes & Bears both have 3-2 records, with the Vikings also having a tie
Only home game in next 4 weeks is vs. the Rams, who are the only undefeated team in the NFL.

Vs. the Rams, opponents who can't stop their ground game have been in trouble. Well... remember that the Saints are the best in the NFL vs. the run. And I like our chances in that noisy Mercedes Benz Superdome!

Your original point made sense because had the Panthers won yesterday, they would have been in a first place tie with the Saints at-this-moment.

Another, maybe even more noteworthy note is with the Bears losing, we are also in sole possession of the #2 seed. A Bears win would have had them tied with us.

Here's hoping we stay in the top 2 for the rest of the season.

During their early 14-spurt, the Redskins seemed to be running a lot of our plays from the earlier years of Payton/Brees. Tight end deep sideline, WR's deep down the seam, etc.
