Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (4 Viewers)

Also as a first round continuation...

2016: Sheldon Rankins - Hit, career derailed by torn Achilles. Still in the league with the Bengals.
2017: Marshon Lattimore - Do I actually have to explain if this was a good pick or not?
2017: Ryan Ramcyzk - Again, do I actually have to explain if this was a good pick or not?
2018: Marcus Davenport - Talented but never stayed healthy, bust.
2019: N/A
2020: Cesar Ruiz - Finally settling in as a starting Right Guard. Not elite, not a bust. Acceptably average. May be a late blooming work in progress.
2021: Payton Turner - Bust.
2022: Chris Olave - Hit. Genuine #1 WR. He's not a Justin Jefferson tier, but he's a solid #1 WR who any team would love to have.
2022: Trevor Penning - Has a lot of work to do but it is literal denial for anyone to say he is not trending upwards. Work in progress.
2023: Bryan Bresee - Certified Fresh Hit. If he actually hits his current projection of 13.5 sacks, he will be viewed as one of the elite pass rushing IDL's in the entire league.
2024: Taliese Fuaga - Highway 75. Looks every bit of being a Certified Fresh Hit.

So that is two busts, two works in progress, and six hits. Worst case they're 6 out of 10, best case they're 8 out of 10. No matter how you slice it, the only two clear flops were defensive linemen. The overall trend between the first and second round is the Saints suck at drafting Edge rushers. Everywhere else they're drafting starters who get second contracts.

2016: Michael Thomas - Record Shattering All Pro Wide Receiver, career derailed with freak ankle injury.
2017: Marcus Williams - Starting FS, Franchise Tagged, now Starting FS for Ravens.
2018: N/A
2019: Erik McCoy - Pro Bowl Center, signed to extension.
2020: N/A
2021: Pete Werner - Starting Saints Linebacker, signed to extension.
2022: Alontae Taylor - Starting Saints Cornerback still on Rookie contract, obvious candidate for extension, playing at very high level.
2023: Isaiah Foskey - Likely a bust.
2024: Kool-Aid McKinstry - Unknown.

So four out of five are/were legitimate starters, one of whom would be Hall of Fame bound had his ankle not been turned into diced cabbage. One pretty ugly looking bust so far and one unknown rookie who shows starting potential. Is that really a stance you want to take?
Pretty solid drafting imo.

Well done, I was going to post something similar but you beat me to it, this guy is like a nonstop nonsensical word salad…..most of what he says has no basis in fact (a 2nd and a 3rd are not that much different? - utter insanity)…..as you point out above in great detail…..

And TBH, the Saints need to draft better, maybe Ireland doesn’t have as much control now with this regime, or his team just isn’t getting it done…..I think that is a big part of the problem and why we don’t have adequate depth….

I see some complaining about not trading for Adams because of weakness and needs on the O-Line and the D-Line. Ok that may be true, but how are y'all expecting to fix that now? Have you looked at what's left of O-Linemen in free agency? There's nothing better than what we have already and some are even worse. Same with the D-Line. Also, what team is going to trade starting caliber O-Linemen or D-Linemen and weaken their team? The answer is NONE. So why not go after Adams? He's available and a playmaker, which this team needs in the worst way. Another weapon to help out on offense. And while we're at it bring in LB Devin White and see what he has left and what he can do for the defense.
Picking up Devin White right before the Tampa game would’ve been a great move. (Similar to At Perry to the Broncos). At least bring him in and have a look. We need all the physicality we can get at LB right now, considering the injuries.

About SR, people aren’t talking about the elephant in the room. Sr earns respect of his teammates. Enough for them to say he’s got a swagger about him. And as a rookie, you need that. Of course there has to be confidence earned through demonstrated ability. Hopefully we’ll see that. This guy has been here one day, and he’s taken notice of Sr.

Well it should be because our offensive line is arse.
Agree, it’s arse. While another poster said the scheme isn’t based on having a great oline, but have an anchor player. then why do we keep wasting 1st rounds picks on the line. We must be the only team that doesn’t draft round 2-4 o linemen if your OC or Oline coach can’t coach up a round 2-4 lineman to be successful, they should be fired. Granted we do have some injuries this season, but they also scraped the bottom of the barrel the last 2 seasons with old and udfa lineman to save money. Our coaches usually have an excess of 1st round talent and the line still isn’t great. That goes for both sides of the line.

Let's say just for argument's sake we trade a 3 for Adams. Chances that we find a player that moves the needle like Adams would are very slim. Let's see with the 3rd we get the 9th or 10th best OL or pass rusher in the draft. Or we can get Adams. Easy choice

Trading an 3rd to LV for Devante Adams to round out our WR room + signing Devin White for injury depth, should make us a playoff team.

But Is it worth the cost and moving salary cap money deferred another 2-3 years until we finally have some cap space free, in exchange for a likely “Brief” 2025 playoff run ???

There’s always a chance we win it all with 2-3 more players, but it isn’t a likely outcome…

I saw that Buffalo is a potential landing spot and would be best fit for Adams.

We will find out soon, i think trade deadline is almost here

My gut tells me there are not a lot of teams willing to part with a number 2 for Adams. The Saints may be the only player willing to.
I'm not sure we are willing to. I would not be surprised if it was maybe a conditional 3rd or 4th.

These are the situations where always being up against or above the cap hurts the Saints. We basically have to convince another team to help us and even if that works, causes us to overpay to do so.

This is the raiders organization leaking false information to drive Saints or Jets closer to their asking price. Bills do not want another Diggs, they want team chemistry. Josh Allen says Buffalo is where "everybody eats" that doesn't sound like a team that's gonna sneak in and trade for a now twice disgruntled WR.

They REALLY like their young guys, Shakir and Coleman, and have good depth with Hollins and Samuel.

This Bills bit is a smokescreen.

Yep and the past two weeks the Bills have been a disaster and Allen has been the conductor on the derailment train.

Unless they are an all time great, a qb needs a legitimate weapon to.win against upper level teams.
