Saints being officiated differently from opponents (2 Viewers)

It doesn't take a scientific study to know this; anyone paying attention to our games can see it. Still, I found this tweet very interesting:

Thx so much for the great and revealing chart. This conversation really scares me. Is the system really rigged against our players and coaches? Us fans get caught in the crossfire.

Even with that, it’s not the amount of penalties.
It’s when they are called.

A 5 yard illegal shift of 1st and 10 is not equal at all to a 3rd and 11, stop them to get off the field.....defensive holding off the ball for 5 yards and an automatic 1st.

And the amount of 1st downs by penalty, the difference in those numbers are STAGGERING.
I’d love to see the difference I those over Payton’s career....

A true scandal, in broad daylight. Why is this not being investigated by the FBI and reported in all of the papers???

When someone screws around with the Saints,my first instinct is to prosecute.

If it's just the game Goodell is manipulating, no laws are being broken. If someone is making book on this penalty palooza, then someone should be wearing leg irons and an orange jump suit.

Yeah, Asher knows nothing about probability and randomness. If it's truly random, how can he "expect the trend to abate pretty soon"?

If you flip 10 tails in a row, the probability of flipping another tails is still, and always, 50/50.

That only remains true in a single, isolated circumstance, i.e. one flip.

Yes, given a single flip, the probability may be 50/50, but obviously there is not a 50/50 chance that ten flips in a row will all be tails. That's more akin to what we are seeing with the Saints.

So I think he's right that the long term trend should abate if it were random. That's how the house always wins in the casino. They have a small advantage (i.e. the 0 and 00 in roulette or the few percentage advantage of a 7 over the 6 and 8 in craps) and then know the probabilities will keep everything else even over the long haul.

BUT, we all know this isn't "random."

3 things from last game prove it isn't random... Look at how early the flags came out on the 4th and 1 plays we had, the ref knew pre snap he was going to toss the flag. Ensuring that no matter what the first down was not gained. Again, ive seen MUCH MUCH worse on short yardage 4th down plays than the "holding " they called twice right after the ball was snapped. Then theres the defensive holding on a FG attempt... wait what? how can there be defensive holding on Fg attempt that's not a fake? I don't care what anyone says, the memo has been passed down any and everything must be called on NOLA because of the saints pressing the league on the no call, its retaliation.

The probability the Saints are getting hosed is 100%.

This begs a question: Is the Payton/Goodell/Officiating vendetta hurting the team?
It's probably hurting the team, but would you want Payton to react any differently? I know I wouldn't. If he just stood by passively, I'd be furious. There's been a lot of public discussion about NFL officiating lately, and I think the Saints have played a big part in that by standing up for themselves.
