For the last couple of years, the New Orleans Saints have been tight-lipped about their plans for veteran free agency — both before and after the signing period started.

But one week before free agency begins, the Saints are showing their hand as they try to come up with ways to improve the NFL’s 26th-ranked defense last season.

In the last two days, the Saints have brought in veteran middle linebackers Dan Morgan and Zach Thomas for visits with club officials. Both can make visits and entertain offers before the start of free agency on Feb. 29 because their contracts were terminated by their previous clubs.
