METAIRIE - The New Orleans Saints brought back veteran tight end Billy Miller on Monday to fill a void created when Ernie Conwell went out with a knee injury in the Saints' last game.
Miller, now in his eighth season, was one of new coach Sean Payton's final cuts before the regular season began.
But Miller said the coach advised him to stay in shape.
"I've been in the league eight years. I just want some honesty," Miller recalled of his conversation with Payton the day he was let go. "If it's over, then let it be over. If there's a chance, then I'll continue to work out and stay in shape and wait for that opportunity, which I did and he came through."
