Saints-Bucs was most watched Fox NFL opener in four years (1 Viewer)

I don’t wanna go into politics, but the boycotts have missed the point. Viewership may be down, but it’s still astronomically better than anything on TV. In fact, a few days ago, the NYT ran an article about how the networks are expecting to pay about three billion more because viewership is declining so badly on every other show. I’ll try to link it.

And I’m just saying this to put those numbers and the Opening Night ratings into perspective.
I’ve heard these ad revenue takes, but there’s no way less people watching can be a good thing. Overall, they are down 10-20%, and as the divide grows bigger, it’s only going to get worse.

The viewing audience of network TV has severely shrank in the past few years. A hit show barely reaches 4 million. Just as an example, Blackish is probably the biggest comedy on network TV at the moment and it only averaged around 2.5 million. The finale of Modern Family was probably the most advertised event of the year for a regular network show and it only got 7 million.
Now compare that with the NFL. That’s why they paying so much. That’s why they gonna pay more to keep the games.

It says it in that NYT article I linked. The NFL still has a LARGE portion of a severely shrunken network TV audience.

Saints=ratings
Yep! It always helps the ratings when the game features teams & players that football fans actually care about.
And of course we all know what team really is the most fun to watch! :very-happy:
