I was on the Saints team page at SI.com and was surprised when I saw that they had the Saints defense ranked 7th through week 4. I clicked on the link to see if there was a mistake, and no, that's where we were.

I then realized how they did their rankings. Unlike NFL.com who uses total yards allowed as their benchmark for defense rankings, SI uses total points allowed. I guess, SI has a point.

Interestingly, when you look at the top 10 defenses on SI's board, all of them have a winning record except the Redskins (2-2), but their offense can't score, so that helps explain the 2-2.

Even more interesting to me, Minny, a 4-0 team, is ranked 15th giving up 20 ppg, the Ravens are 16th also allowing 20 ppg, and the Eagles are 23rd, giving up 24 ppg - we did that to the Eagles.

Of course, all of the other teams in the bottom half of points allowed, don't have a winning record.

Does anyone miss the aerial attack the last two weeks? Don't get me wrong I'm ecstatic over the play of our D and the running game but I do miss the high scoring passing game. I guess I just want it all during the same game.

It'll come. They played a very good defense last week. That said, I'm actually sort of elated that we DON'T have to score 40 on offense to win these days.

Ranked 7th only in PPG (pts allowed). I find it kind of messed up how the Falcons are ranked 8th, taking into account their yards given up (in which they rank 28th).

It'll return. When you listen to Drew and Coach Payton, it seemed like it was a conscious choice not to force anything with the pressure we were seeing that could/would result in turnovers by our offense.

*See Ravens game in 06'. That one easily comes to mind.

I just think Payton has the confidence in our running game, defensive special teams, and our defense now, that they will pull their load.

Drew won't have to put up 300+ yards every game for us to win - That's a great feeling for fans who got tired of seeing us lose shootouts the last two years.

Scoring always matters more than yards when it's all said and done. I'm excited about being #1 in takeaways for the first time in decades.

True epitome of "bend, but don't break."

You know, I think everybody needs to take a step back and look at the Jets game a little harder. We could have scored another TD at the end of the game if we wanted, making the score 31-10, also, earlier in the game we could have gone for a FG making it 34-10, so in reality the score was totally misleading. But let them eat their own cheese if they want to.

Thanks for the find. Why anyone would thumb it down, I dunno.

I sure wished we would of after the Gay pick, just for those media morons who only look at box scores when writing. It would be nice to have gained another 4 yards and TD so that we wouldn't be tied on offense with the Colts and Drew could have 10 TD to Mannings 9. But they did the classy thing, again.

Yeah, that Ravens game dominated my thoughts leading up to this one. And it is refreshing that Drew doesn't have to do it all anymore, or the offense for that matter. I love how everyone can make contributions, and how defenses truly have to pick their poison and the fact we have a coach and QB smart enough to make adjustments on the fly when they see what a defense is giving.

Both sides of this coin are really due to the oddness of the Patriots game. The Pats dominated them up and down the field, but had two dropped 3rd down TD passes and really didn't open it up until the end. Thus they only gave up 26 in a game where 42 was more reasonable and they gave up a ton of yards in that one game (445 of their 1144).

Very interesting. There is always a reason. Good info :9:
