Multiple New Orleans Saints players jumped up and down along the sideline, trying to show the officials Denver Broncos safety Will Parks stepped out of bounds on his way to returning an extra point for the game-winning score.

Upon review, the referee decided Parks was in bounds, which gave the Broncos 2 points and a 25-23 lead with 1:22 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Before the incredible play happened, which started after Denver safety Justin Simmons — a rookie like Parks — leaped over long snapper Justin Drescher, the Saints thought they were in line to win the game. They had just scored on a 32-yard touchdown catch by Brandin Cooks, and the extra point by Wil Lutz would give New Orleans a 1-point lead.

Instead, the Saints (4-5) suffered a stunning defeat when it looked like they were ready to win for a fifth time in the past six games.

"It's hard to swallow," punter Thomas Morstead said.
