If the Saints pass on Matt Forte, RB Tulane or He was off the board. <O:p></O:p>
Saints need a Big (half) back for short yardage, if they lose A. Stecker as free agent. Here are some 220 to 250 lb running backs that may slide into un-drafted free agents.<O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Offense RB – un-drafted free agents:<O:p></O:p>
Alley Broussard RB, <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Missouri</ST1:place></st1:State> Southern State (Yes the LSU Transfer).<O:p></O:p>
Kregg Lumpkin RB, <st1:country-region w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Georgia</ST1:place></st1:country-region>.<O:p></O:p>
Jalen Parmele, RB <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Toledo</ST1:place></st1:City>.<O:p></O:p>
Ben Jarvis Green RB, Miss.<O:p></O:p>
Lex Hilliard RB, <ST1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Montana</st1:State></ST1:place>.<O:p></O:p>
Tim High Tower RB, <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Richmond</ST1:place></st1:City> (small school gem?)<O:p></O:p>
Lance Ball, RB <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Maryland</ST1:place></st1:State>.<O:p></O:p>
Chris Jennings RB, <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Cincinnati</ST1:place></st1:City>.<O:p></O:p>
Maurice Murray RB, North Eastern (small school gem?)<O:p></O:p>
Greg Moore RB, Cincannati.<O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Offense QB un-drafted free agents<O:p></O:p>
Saints will address QB in un-drafted free agents. Hopefully Palko will be #2 behind Brees and Saints can find a diamond in the rough and coach him up to be 3rd string QB. <O:p></O:p>
Some ideas:<O:p></O:p>
Mark Nicolet, QB Hillsdale<O:p></O:p>
Adam Tafralis, QB <ST1:place w:st="on"><st1:placeName w:st="on">San Jose</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType w:st="on">State</st1:placeType></ST1:place><O:p></O:p>
Taylor Tharp, QB <ST1:place w:st="on"><st1:placeName w:st="on">Boise</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType w:st="on">State</st1:placeType></ST1:place><O:p></O:p>
Nick Hill, QB <ST1:place w:st="on">Southern Illinois</ST1:place><O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Trade notes:<O:p></O:p>
* If Ellis is off the board. Saints trade there 4th round (106 overall) 100 pts and 1st round pick (10 overall) 1300 pts to Dallas for there 1st round (22 overall) 780 pts and there 1st round (28 overall) 660 pts. <O:p></O:p>
Predict <st1:City w:st="on">Dallas</st1:City> will use that pick to take WR DeSean Jackson, <st1:State w:st="on">California</st1:State> or S Kenny Phillips, <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Miami</ST1:place></st1:City>. <ST1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Dallas</st1:City></ST1:place> is getting old at WR. DeSean Jackson’s speed the last piece to the Tony Romo puzzle ? <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
** Only if the Jets LB Jonathan Vilma passes a Physical exam. <O:p></O:p>
The Saints will trade for Vilma for the cost of a 3rd /4th rd pick. Saints make trade with Jets. Saints will get the Jets 2nd round pick (38 overall) 520 pts and Jets will get Saints 1st round (28 overall) 660 pts to the Jets for the right to linebacker Johnathan Vilma. The compensation for Vilma = the cost of a 3rd / 4th rounder. <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
***Saints trade down there own 2nd round pick (42 overall) 480 pts with Lions < > Eagles (47 to 51 overall) for there 2nd Round pick (47 – 51 overall) 430 to 390 pts. Saints are compensated a 4th rounder (111 to 115 overall) 72 to 64 pts. Saints recover the 4th rounder lost in an earlier trade.<O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Free Agent:<O:p></O:p>
Saints must target a CB in free agency. CB does not need to be the best on the market (DON’T BREAK THE BANK HERE) Saints need to draft at least one CB in the upcoming draft. FA pick up will need to start in place of J.D. M.M & CB draft picks should be ready by mid-season. I hope U.Young steps up and takes solid control over the other CB position. If U.Y. steps up and secures that other CB position the Saints will be ok with only one CB signing in Free Agency. If Vilma trade does not work out for Saints, I would like to pickup at least one LB in free agency. Just some ideas: DT Cory Williams Green Bay, S Ken <O:p></O:p>
Hamlin Dallas, Drayton <st1:City w:st="on">Florence</st1:City> <ST1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">San Diego</st1:City></ST1:place>, LB ? Other CB ?, WR ?<O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Saints center J.F. was exposed in short yardage situations by bigger DT, blown back in the backfield often. We need a bigger center anchoring / spear heading the point of attack. J.F. is good in pass situations, but we need more beef to run the ball up the gut. I would not re-sign J.F. to large contract. I would rather re-sign center J.G. and pick up a larger center in draft or Un-drafted Free Agent. Need to get bigger, stronger and younger at starting LG and center. <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Train Reggie Bush to play slot WR in pass situations. M.C. and R.M. outside WR. <O:p></O:p>
L..Moore /Payton @ the 4th receiver slot in an empty backfield set. The running backs D.M, P.T. and M. Forte. With Bush playing slot WR it will open up the field for entire offense in pass downs. <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
WR: D.Henderson will not be re-signed unless to a very cheap contract. Target an Un-drafted free agent or FA to fill roster spot. <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
RB: my gut feeling is the Saints will not re-sign A. Stecker. He will make more money with another team not as deep at RB. Saints will draft Forte or RB in Un-drafted FA pool to fill need of a short yardage back. <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
QB: Need youth behind Brees. Make Martin a coach.<O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
DE: Draft or sign a pass rusher and move Charles Grant inside on pass situations. Good pass rush will put less pressure on our CB’S.<O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Saints 7 Round Mock Draft with no trades. “Very boring with no trades”<O:p></O:p>
With just 7 pick’s pass on Matt Forte and go Defense in the 3rd<O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
1 Kenny Phillips FS <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Miami</ST1:place></st1:City> (10 overall) If Ellis & Rivers off the board<O:p></O:p>
2 Quinton <st1:City w:st="on">Groves</st1:City> LB <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">Auburn</ST1:place></st1:City> (If we take Rivers in 1st go CB here)<O:p></O:p>
3 Trevor Laws, DT Notre Dame or Tracy Porter, CB Indiana <O:p></O:p>
4 Patrick Lee, CB Auburn <O:p></O:p>
5 Ben Moffitt, ILB <ST1:place w:st="on">South Florida</ST1:place><O:p></O:p>
6 <st1:country-region w:st="on">Chad</st1:country-region> Rinehart, OG Northern <st1:State w:st="on">Iowa</st1:State> or Andrew Crummey, OG <ST1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Maryland</st1:State></ST1:place><O:p></O:p>
7 Hille <st1:City w:st="on">Taylor</st1:City>, DE / OLB <ST1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">North Carolina</st1:State></ST1:place> <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
I would like SAINTS TO TRADE IN THE <st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">1ST RD</st1:address></st1:Street> FOR EXTRA PICK SO<O:p></O:p>
THEY CAN GET MATT FORTE, PLUS FILL DEFENSIVE NEEDS. <O:p></O:p>
<O:p></O:p>
Hey Cotton Mill Saint, how about that running back from Tulane! Gotcha!<O:p></O:p>

You sure look like you know what you are talking about with all of that fine print, but Dallas has the 22nd and 28th pick not the 22nd and 30th.

I'd much rather see us keep the 22nd 28th 42nd and 74th than do all that swapping for Vilma and an extra 4th rounder. I'd go
best CB/LB/DT@22 pick which ever has the highest grade still available.
best CB/LB/DT@28
best CB/LB/DT@42
Matt Forte@74 or best OL on the board
5th-7th project players from small schools that may have flown under the radar. DT/Safety/CB/RB(bruiser back)

Free Agency
On defense we need an impact MLB, CB or DT. We don't need all 3, don't break the bank for the flashy guy. Briggs/Samuel are too expensive, look at Trufont, Florence or the guy from Miaimi. I don't know of any good MLB's on the market so we might be screwed there. DT Williams from GB or possibly someone else of that caliber. We need to spend on 1 mid-upper guy and a couple of low end guys. The rest has to be taken care of in the draft.

On offense, we need to protect our investments. Brees needs a stout O-Line that gives him time like Brady gets. I'd advocate switching Jamaal back to right end where he doesn't have to face the speed rush and can pair with Evans to open some big holes. Sign Faneca if he's cheap enough to replace Nesbit or have Allemann ready to go. Get Bushrod or Strief ready to play left tackle with support from a tight end most of the time(since we only have 3 receivers). Make Faine compete with Goodwin in TC for who is actually the better center. If Goodwin could set protections like Faine it wouldn't even be a competition.

We have 30 million, I'd give a 25 million deal to Faneca and Florence(10 upfront). Sign Colston and Brown to long term deals if it fits under the cap. Leave Smith off till next year and threaten to franchise him or let him go if he underperforms again.

In my opinion, the offense failed the team this season as well. Just remember the 0-4 start and you can see how the offense came up short so many times. The Saints need upgrades there as well, not just on defense. I can understand if the team needs to use first day picks on defense, but you don't neglect the other side of the ball.

A whole lot of you are just going to be highly disappointed on draft day, because no team will devote their entire free agent signings and draft picks to defense. No situation in the NFL is ever that critical. This defense is just 2 or 3 impact players away from being adequate.

If we made the trade with Dallas I don't see any way we could pass up on Lofton at 28, Vilma is a huge risk.

Leodis McKelvin is rated by many as the top CB in the draft; how does he fall to the 2nd round? Antoine Cason is rated by many as a 2nd or 3rd round pick; on what are you basing the opinion that he's not only a 1st round pick, but is also better than McKelvin?

What are we going to do with the 2nd 1st round pick?

Why is Dallas going to give us their 2 firsts?

If we want DRC, we had better well take him at #10.

I dont care if Vilma passes the physical with flying colors.... no way the jets get a 1st round pick in any form for Vilma..... unless the jets are gonna pay his salary......

Personally, I dont see Dallas, trading both there picks unless its for McFadden....

They have too many needs too give up 2 first round picks, if anything they trade down with one of them and get extra picks.....

With the age of there WRs and Julius Jones and possibly Flozell Adams leaving, there gonna try and replace those guys with there draft picks....

I see them selecting DB/WR with the first pick and WR/RB with there 2nd pick.....

yea i gotta agree i dont think hell leave the top 15, he might end up being the first cornerback taken(that is if he lights up the combine). if we want him it will probably have to stay at 10
