While there are certainly players that I would like to see the Saints get with the 15th overall pick, there is one trade out of the first round that works with the draft trade value chart. Miami has the 12th overall pick and two picks in each of the second and third rounds. Since the Saints are unlikely to be able to secure any impact free agents and are currently without a second rounder and have multiple needs for quality players, it makes sense to me to try to turn that No. 15 choice into several picks.

The Saints' #15 pick, according to the chart, is worth 1050 points. Miami owns picks #42 (480 points), #54 (360 points) and #82 (180 points), so 480+360+180 = 1020 points. That should be good enough, but if they wanted to throw in a late rounder in 2014, then great.

So in the first three rounds you would have:

Miami -- #12 , #15 and #77
New Orleans -- #42, #54, #75 and #82

Instead of having five picks in the first three rounds, Miami would have two top 15 picks and still have a third, while New Orleans would move from one mid-round pick in the first and third rounds to four picks out of the first 82.

Basically the Saints would be trading the ability to get one potentially great player and a good one for potentially four good ones. Would you rather have a draft with (1) Jarvis Jones/Star Lotulelei/Barkevious Mingo + (3) Duke Williams/Tony Jefferson or one with possibly Jamie Collins, Sam Montgomery, Chris Faulk and Blidi Wreh-Wilson. I like the idea of potentially filling multiple needs and getting more opportunities to hit with top 100 players.

That's my point. Doing this would open it up to many possibilities and combinations with that many picks in the first 82. Maybe a Johnathan Banks falls to #42, the Saints could have a Banks, Montgomery, Rambo and Arthur Brown draft. It doesn't matter to me whether the order is CB, DE, S and LB or LB, S, CB and DE as long as they get someone at each level in the first three rounds. Hard to do that with just two picks. :ezbill:

I see what your saying, and totally agree in a sense but the only way I pull the trigger on a trade like this is if players like Jordan, Ansah, Jones or even Vacarro are already off the board.

I think this is a horrible idea! We need a great player at 15 and we will get one! I will garantee we get not just one big name in FA but a few! I'm thinking we are gonna let bushrod walk prob to the bears and we are gonna get long from Miami who will be a huge upgrade and lock that position down for 6 years or more and will only cost is a 2-3 mil by replacing bushrod a salary with longs! While we are talking about Oline we also tendered DLP for a 2nd so if he leaves we have a 2nd rounder to draft possibly barett jones out of bama! And RT has always been a weak spot which this is the least likely to happen but would be an awesome upgrade from strief! Getting Winston who would be just about the same pass blocking maybe a little better than strief but 10xs better in the run game! And he wouldn't cost much either. 1-2 mil with replacing striefs salary!
Also we are thin at reciever. I see us deffinately either getting a decent draft pick in here or a FA most likely candidates are mike Wallace, Greg Jennings. Either would be great to make our #2 and would compliment Colston perfectly and give Brees a catching machine! I love Moore but he's just not a # 2 he's a slot #3 ad good at it he needs to stay there on the depth chart!
I also see a very good possibility we bring in a FA CB one of three Namdi to come back with rob Ryan and be great again, Sean smith, or Rodgers-cromartie who is my favorite out f the 3
The guy runs a 4.2 and is 6'2 and is a man coverage specialist!

I also see a small possibility of bringing in Harrison from the steelers he wouldn't command big$ and is a major impact player! He would instantly get a starting spot may a 2yr 10 Mil contract and let galette and tez compete for the other OLB position!

A smaller possibiliy is we get rid of ivory and get a 2nd rounder and somehow pick up Reggie back or welker! Just think the damage these guys would have with sproles and Brees and either one on the field..

Where are we gonna get money to add these guys you ask? I don't know yet but we are always over the cap and somehow we always seem to bring in guys and this year with all the talent out there in FA Mickey is a money genius he will get us some players dont you worry!

It would depend on who's on the board at the time. Some guys you just can't pass on if they're there.

Richard, I understand your reasoning and at least your trade is reasonable in terms of the exchange between both teams. But I am still of the volition that if an impact player is there at #15, you take him. I don't know that we need quantity and if you can grab a Jarvis Jones or Barkevious Mingo, you do so. The good thing about this draft is that it is deep so chances are you will still have the opportunity to grab a solid player in the third, fourth and fifth rounds. Players like Brandon Williams, Markus Wheaton, Terron Armstead, Daniel Gratz, Jordan Poyer, Sio Moore (who I like a lot and reminds a little of Bobby Wagner) and so many others are likely to be on the board when the third round starts. We will be fine.

If you are expecting all these players to sign with the Saints, you will be disappointed. We are still over the cap, nobody will give us a 2nd round pick for a Center and Bushrod will probably be back.
I like this idea of a trade with Miami for more draft picks, and hopefully someone will give us a 3rd for Ivory.
