METAIRIE, La. - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees spent his bye week relaxing with friends and family. His travels took him to Birmingham, Ala., and his old stomping grounds in San Diego.

Brees said he didn't watch much of Sunday's NFL action. If he had, it would have brought back some painful memories as some of his quarterback brethren dropped like flies during Week 7.

The Seattle Seahawks' Matt Hasselbeck injured his knee and will miss at least three weeks. The Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger suffered his second concussion (first football-related) within the last six months and may not play this week. The loss of both players led to defeat for both teams.

Peyton Manning took a horrific hit that bent his upper torso backwards and sent his helmet flying through the air. Fortunately for the Indianapolis Colts, Manning returned to the game to throw three touchdown passes and pummel the Washington Redskins.

"It's a part of the game," Brees said. "You're talking to a guy who five months ago had a hit like that, not to the head, but to the shoulder. That's kind of part of the game and unfortunately it's the kind of world we live in. It's not something you think about.
