Saints Expected to Place 1st rd tender on RFA Taysom Hill (2 Viewers)

I'm not 100% on this, but I would think the team would have to give up their original (earned) first round slot position and not one that was obtained by trading with another team.

This is correct. Unless they acquire a pick that is higher than their original pick, which can then be used to sign a RFA. In other words they can trade away their original pick, but then acquire another pick that was higher than that to use on a RFA.

Unless it has changed recently, that is what I have always understood as well.

I don't see anyone giving up a 1st pick for him at 30 years old. If he was in his early 20s maybe.
I agree. I do not see any team giving up a 1st for Hill. It may get a bit dicey if they tender him as a 2nd. $4.7 million seems pretty high for Hill. If they tender him at that, it is a pretty good indication of what they think about his QB skills.

I think he was always going to get tendered with a first rounder. Ignoring _any_ QB stuff, he's worth $5mm/year just in his current role as gadget WR/TE/RB/FB and special teams guy.

Agreed, making a contract offer if we tendered a 2nd round pick is a lot more appealing to teams drafting around #60

Don’t want to see the guy leave, but at his age and wanting to be a starting QB, then he will have to do what is best for him. Can’t hate him for that

Saints are only putting that 1st round tender on him because they know that the Bengals will sign Taysom - we won't match... and we can get the #1 overall pick from them to draft Burreaux....

I've seen some crazy, but this is pour a drink and just admire it level of crazy. ???

so if the Saints decide not to sign THill for some reason or there any consequences for this loss of a pick ?

I think Taysom is get a 7.5 to 8 million per year offer. I'm willing to bet the Saints would go to 12 million per year. If someone offers him starting QB 17 to 20 million, he'll be in a different uniform next year

If they're even entertaining the possibility of losing him, then it would seem that Brees has indicated he's coming back. Either that, or we've got designs on signing Bridgewater.

We can always match any offer that another team makes for Hill. If we want him bad enough we've got him locked up for one more year.
