I think the clearing of space for this year's cap was inevitable because the signing bonus has to be prorated over the length of the contract. I don't think we can just say, "Let's just start the prorating in 2017..."

You don't need $16m extra to sign street bodies for injuries.

This was either done knowing it could be rolled over to next year or they have another move to make.

Probably just gonna roll it over to help with his hit next season.

If they don't have a trade in mind, it certainly gives them some room if an opportunity does present itself.

Also, I guess it gives up the ability to extend some other people who are working on soon to be expiring deals.

There's got to be another deal. I get that you can roll unused cap space to next year, but why create cap space this year specifically just to do that, when you could've structured it to fall into next year anyway? Something's up.
