It was reported that the Saints would be aggressive at the NFL’s trade deadline.
So far, the team has been involved in one major transaction, acquiring third year cornerback Eli Apple from the New York Giants in exchange for two draft picks, but there has been some conversation that the organization will pursue other additions in the future, and that their backup quarterback could be a bargaining chip in a prospective exchange.
The Saints brought quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in after a deal with the New York Jets this offseason, and for a minute there after the Apple trade, it was thought that perhaps the Giants would have been awarded Bridgewater in exchange for Apple.
That turned out not to be the case, but judging by some recent remarks by Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, it appears that anything is possible.
“First of all, we felt a need to have an experienced backup, and Teddy is a really good talent,” Loomis told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “So, we had an opportunity to get an experienced backup in here that can win games for you if something would happen to Drew, and at the same time, he’s a younger player. I think he’s younger than Taysom [Hill], as a matter of fact.” ...
