With Drew Brees now retired, the New Orleans Saints must figure who their next quarterback will be. Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill will be battling for that role, and Saints general manager Mickey Loomis provided an update on that competition.
Loomis went on The Adam Schein Podcast and was asked about the status of the quarterback position. Loomis made it clear that Winston will be competing with Hill this fall. The New Orleans general manager was pleased with what he saw out of Winston last year, which was his first with the franchise. Now, it’s just a matter of the Saints working through all their options under center in the coming months.
"He's going to be in a competition with Taysom," Loomis said. "So we're really excited and high on Taysom just as we are on Jameis and it’s going to be interesting to see how that shakes out.
"Listen, Jameis has been fantastic and you have these impressions of guys afar that when you get them in your building, you really learn a lot about them. He did just fantastic — fantastic as a teammate, fantastic representative of the organization. He's a smart, smart football player. He's hard-working. Just everything you would want.
