On Sunday the Saints will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons for the final time in the Georgia Dome. To the naked eye a 7-8 Saints team doesn’t have nearly as much to play for as the division leading Falcons.
A win by Atlanta locks up the second seed in the NFC and with that comes a first round bye.All signs point to a Falcons victory.
Here’s why this won’t be a pushover for the Falcons.
The Saints don’t want to finish 7-9 for the third straight year. A win brings respectability to the Saints finishing at .500.
Division games are never easy. The Saints would love nothing more then to not give the Falcons a weeks rest in the playoffs. They’ll be ready to play. Since Sean Payton took over as head coach of the Saints in the 2006 season, they have a 15-6 record vs Atlanta.
That includes the 2012 suspension season. In fact Sean Payton has only lost twice in the Georgia Dome since 2006. The season opener in 2014 in the last seconds and again in 2008. That’s it.
