Long-memory guys, this thread's for you. Recent events with the Saints have got me wondering about this:
Who have been the non-QB emergency QBs the Saints have had over the years?
The most notable one that everyone remembers is Guido Merkens. He mostly played special teams and a little bit of WR for the Saints, and also dabbled as a punter and defensive back during his career. He started one game at QB for the Saints in 1982 (12/26/1982 vs Atlanta) -- not sure of the circumstances. Archie Manning was traded after the first game, leaving Kenny Stabler and Merkens as the only two QBs on the roster. Stabler was hurt that week or something.
The other emergency QB that Mora Era fans will likely remember was WR Lonzell Hill. He only threw one pass during his career ... but I seem to recall a game where he finished out the 4th quarter simply handing off several times in a row. Maybe just for a three-and-out, maybe for two or three series. The memory is vague on that one.
