METAIRIE, La. - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees calls turnovers the most telling statistic in football.
Commit them, and the team more than likely gives the game away. Create takeaways and more often than not, the team will be victorious.
So it's kind of an anomaly for the Saints to have built a 6-3 record considering they're minus-six when it comes to turnover ratio. Saints coach Sean Payton said Monday the turnovers foiled the team as it lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 38-31 on Sunday.
In the last two Saints losses to the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, the team turned the ball over eight times. The Saints turned the ball over eight times through their other seven games, when they went 6-1.
