There are more rookies than usual in Saints camp this year looking like they’ll be impossible to cut. Keith Kirkwood may be making the strongest case.
It seems like, every season in Saints training camp, there’s an undrafted rookie who catches everybody’s eye. Last season, understandably, it was LSU’s Travin Dural. This year, it’s wide receiver Keith Kirkwood.
If you’re not familiar with the name, we’re here to help you out. If you’re from SEC country, like most Saints fans, you may have never seen a Temple University football game. In the heart of Philadelphia, it’s one of what we in the South like to call basketball schools. Sort of a slam against schools that don’t have winning football programs. Like when I see someone with a Michigan jacket on I like to ask “Oh, is it basketball season already?”
But every once in a while, a kid like Keith Kirkwood comes along to make you wonder what you’re missing. For one, Kirkwood looks like he was made to play in the NFL. Like a slightly slimmer Michael Thomas who also comes from a basketball school. He, like most of the Saints receivers, is big and runs in the 4.4 to 4.5 range. ...
