Saints involved in trade talks for Robert Quinn (Update: Will visit Saints Monday 3/25) (1 Viewer)

I hope it's not true. That would be insane IMHO.

Hey AARP - you said it perfect. That would be insane for our pass rush. He is only 28. Not only would that be a major plus this year, but this guy can contribute beyond Brees. It's pretty clear to me that Coach SP is trying to build a monster defense for Brees and beyond Brees. With the Manster Brown and the speed of Rankins, those two would provide serious pressure up the middle on passes forcing the QBs to either unload fast or move outside the pocket. Then add Jordan, Davenport and Quinn, all quite fast and very athletic, and we have a monster front 7 against both the pass and the run. With the emergence of Anzalone and the addition of Davis, that would be a nasty front 7.

I really like this move if we pull it off.

If we trade away our 2nd and 5th this year, I think the Who Dat draftniks may contemplate suicide. The Who Dat Draftniks wait the entire year for the pre draft and draft. If we don't have a pic till the 6th round, I'm afraid that some of our brothers may take things in their own hands lol
Exactly. We're limited as it is already. No need to blow the house down.

When healthy he's a borderline double digit sack guy, and he can put pressure on the QB (very similar to Ziggy)... my guess is that we are interested for a late pick this year and a mid round pick next year.... and any trade would have to include a new deal that doesn't hit us for 10+ million against this cap this season. Just my take.

But the Saints interest in DEs has me wondering about Davenport. It doesn't seem like the FO feels like he's ready to take on the full time gig. It would be one thing if they were just looking at some DE depth. They are being linked to proven starters.
Then why let Okafor go, then? This is probably more about getting more disruptive and deeper on the D line than it is about any one player.

This is interesting. Seems like Quinn has been in the league forever but at 28, he's still a year younger than Ziggy Ansah. Quinn has averaged around 9 Sacks a season compared to Ansah's 8. Quinn has played in at least 15 games every year of his career except two.

All things being equal it seems like Quinn would be a safer option. But the Saints interest in DEs has me wondering about Davenport. Good research! I appreciate the comparison.

I think it has little to do with Davenport and everything to do with having fresh pass rushers.

I don't know why they let Okafor walk. Getting him resigned didn't seem to be a priority.

And I agree that depth is obviously important and you want to have as many pass rusher as possible but if they thought they were set with Davenport and Jordan, would they be looking at these high priced Pro Bowl type DEs? It's not that they are looking for DEs, it's which DEs they are looking at. Robert Quinn and Ziggy Ansah aren't depth type players. Both are legitimate, proven starters in their prime.

To me a depth signing would be like a Brooks Reed or Adrian Clayborn or Michael Johnson or some other cheap vet. With all of our needs headed into free agency a high priced DE wasn't high on that list.

And if the FO sees Davenport as more of a rotational player at this point then that's fine. It takes most D Lineman a few years to grow into an every down player. I'm all for bringing in as many pass rushers as we can afford.

It's about skill set.

Okafor is a pretty good all-around DE who specialized in run defense. Cam Jordan is an elite all-around DE who specializes in everything. And Davenport showed starter-quality ability in all areas and could soon be elite.

Ansah and Quinn are pass-rush specialists. They're going to be great on third down when we kick a rusher inside or we could even get creative and line them up outside Jordan or Davenport.

If we bring in Ansah or Quinn, and when Rankins comes back, our D Line would be the most versatile unit in the league. With the addition of Malcolm Brown our run D should continue to be a strength and you throw in a pass rusher like Ansah or Quinn...my goodness.

TSN is kind of a subsidiary of ESPN in Canada.

This is the type of addition that would solidify next years success for sure. This 6 man rotation would wear offenses out quickly, and would accommodate to our secondary far beyond Dennis Allen’s dreams. We need players that will aid to our already established core, he is one of them.

Sounds like the Cowboys are pretty far along in the process

I said an hour or so ago he's here in Frisco (Cowboys HQ). They're meeting with him but it'll be on the trade compensation. Apparently we're in the mix for him also so we'll see what happens.
