Yeah, 4 days ago they said we re-signed Dez, which is not true...
No way Miami was offered that much for Quinn from anybody

I hope it's not true. That would be insane IMHO.
Exactly. We're limited as it is already. No need to blow the house down.If we trade away our 2nd and 5th this year, I think the Who Dat draftniks may contemplate suicide. The Who Dat Draftniks wait the entire year for the pre draft and draft. If we don't have a pic till the 6th round, I'm afraid that some of our brothers may take things in their own hands lol
Then why let Okafor go, then? This is probably more about getting more disruptive and deeper on the D line than it is about any one player. But the Saints interest in DEs has me wondering about Davenport. It doesn't seem like the FO feels like he's ready to take on the full time gig. It would be one thing if they were just looking at some DE depth. They are being linked to proven starters.
This is interesting. Seems like Quinn has been in the league forever but at 28, he's still a year younger than Ziggy Ansah. Quinn has averaged around 9 Sacks a season compared to Ansah's 8. Quinn has played in at least 15 games every year of his career except two.
All things being equal it seems like Quinn would be a safer option. But the Saints interest in DEs has me wondering about Davenport. It doesn't seem like the FO feels like he's ready to take on the full time gig. It would be one thing if they were just looking at some DE depth. They are being linked to proven starters.

I don't know why they let Okafor walk. Getting him resigned didn't seem to be a priority.
And I agree that depth is obviously important and you want to have as many pass rusher as possible but if they thought they were set with Davenport and Jordan, would they be looking at these high priced Pro Bowl type DEs? It's not that they are looking for DEs, it's which DEs they are looking at. Robert Quinn and Ziggy Ansah aren't depth type players. Both are legitimate, proven starters in their prime.
To me a depth signing would be like a Brooks Reed or Adrian Clayborn or Michael Johnson or some other cheap vet. With all of our needs headed into free agency a high priced DE wasn't high on that list.
It's about skill set.
Okafor is a pretty good all-around DE who specialized in run defense. Cam Jordan is an elite all-around DE who specializes in everything. And Davenport showed starter-quality ability in all areas and could soon be elite.
Ansah and Quinn are pass-rush specialists. They're going to be great on third down when we kick a rusher inside or we could even get creative and line them up outside Jordan or Davenport.
