The ominous absence of cornerback Keenan Lewis from the New Orleans Saints practice field just one day after being removed from the physically unable to perform list raised a red flag.
You knew Lewis wasn't really healthy enough to practice after multiple procedures to repair his ailing hip, an injury he sustained nearly a year ago. You knew some sort of injured reserve could become a possibility for one of the Saints' better free-agent pickups from the last few years.
The Saints ultimately took it one step further by releasing Lewis on Friday, a source told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune. Lewis published a goodbye letter to the Saints fanbase on his Instagram account.
