Saints' Michael Thomas, Wil Lutz make Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie team... (1 Viewer)

Man Harbaugh did us such a solid with Lutz! Plus, that vote of confidence SP gave him after that 61 yarder almost went in in week one was nice to see after so many years of SP battling with kickers.

That's probably a 9-7 AFC South Champion team right there. This was a strong rookie class...

Had Rankins played an entire season there is no doubt he would have made the list.

Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out why Thomas is 2nd behind Sharpe...only time you've seen that this year

Is the All Rookie team required to have a kicker? If so, I think there was only one other rookie kicker, Robert Aguayo. It's great that Lutz beat out a 2nd rounder, but Thomas' achievement is far more impressive, since he had over a dozen receivers to beat.

Funny how Tunsil was the consensus #1 overall pick heading up to the draft as a left tackle and ended up playing guard but lots of people claim the Saints are idiots for drafting Peat at 13 (same as Tunsil) who is ultimately playing guard and did a damn good job of it on the left side this year.

Pretty impressive that Thomas basically doubled up Sterling Shepard, the only on WR on the team.

Have not seen Blackadder post much lately about how SP was an idiot for going with Lutz after tryout.

Spoilsport! :angryrazz::hihi:

But anyway it's another reminder of how unpredictable rookie kickers have been over the years, and why drafting any placekicker tends to be a high-risk move. Aguayo was supposed to have been about as sure a choice as had been available in years, but it didn't work out that way, at least not this year.

Difference is their LT is 32-33 and Tunsil will be replacing him within the next year or two. Our LT is in his mid 20's and in his prime, so barring injuries or trade, please tell me when Peat will be replacing him? So yes it looks like we blew a top pick on a guard.....
