CB Asante Samuel [<st1>New England</st1>] 7 years 63 million/ 25 guaranteed [9]
<o></o>
With Jason David’s implosion and Mike McKenzie’s knee injury the Saints have to make a big impact at CB. They need a shut down CB and Samuel is the best option despite the fact they will have to pay.

</o> S Atari Bigby [<st1:city><st1>Green Bay</st1></st1:city> RFA 6th 5 years 18 million/ 9 guaranteed [3.5]
<o></o>
Josh Bullocks needs to find his way to the bench and while Bigby is not an elite player he is a passionate big hitter that has the speed to play in the middle of the defense.

Draft<o></o>
<o></o>
1[10] DT Phillip Merling [Clemson]
<o></o>
Merling played LDE in college and at 6’5” 290lbs. he has the size to move inside and play DT. The Saints need a quicker more disruptive player at DT and Merling provides that. He is a high character guy that will work hard and make plays with hustle and quicks. Merlin is a coach Ogeron type defensive lineman.
<o></o>

2[42] LB Curtis Lofton [OU]
<o></o>
Lofton might not have elite size [6’ 240lbs] but he is the heat seeking missile that the Saints need at MLB. His stats at<st1:state><st1> Oklahoma</st1></st1:state> this year were insane and so is the style that he plays. He will bring an entire new level of intensity to the defense and speed to the MLB spot.
<o></o>

</o> <o></o>
3[74] CB Terrell Thomas [USC]
<o></o>
Thomas has good size [6’1” 198lbs] and has played in the man cover system. He could also get a look at FS, but he provides depth and size.
<o></o>
<o></o>
<o></o>
4. LB Geno Hayes [<st1:street><st1:address>Florida St</st1:address></st1:street>.]
<o></o>
Hayes is an undersized [6’1 220lbs.] weakside LB that can run with TEs and RBs and e has played in the middle so you know he can tackle.
<o></o>
<o></o>
<o></o>
5. OG Barry Richardson [Clemson]
<o></o>
The Saints need help at LG and Richardson who played LT at Clemson brings great size [6’6” 331lbs] and played in a run blocking system in college.
<o></o>
<o></o>
<o></o>
7. WR Taj Smith [<st1:city><st1>Syracuse</st1></st1:city>]
<o></o>
A smaller speed WR that can return kicks.
