TAMPA, Fla. — The New Orleans Saints running game has been stuck in neutral for the past three games, managing just 81 yards and a scant 2.3 average on 79 rushing attempts.

But there’s certainly nothing wrong with the passing game, as the Saints proved in Sunday’s 31-14 beating of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before 65,561 shocked fans in Raymond James Stadium.

With quarterback Drew Brees completing 75 percent of his passes and Marques Colston and former LSU standout Devery Henderson doing most of the damage on the receiving end, the Saints aired the ball out in rolling to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter before cruising to the victory.

Brees threw for a career-high 383 yards in the Saints’ 35-22 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday, but he felt a lot better about himself after hitting on 24 of 32 passes for 314 yards and three TDs — the third straight game in which he’s had three scoring passes — after the NFC South-leading Saints improved to 6-2.
