I would rather the saints trade players instead of picks if they have to make a trade this offseason. What players realistically could the saints afford to give up?

What do you think Bullocks value would be? He's young and a starter.

What about Stinch?

Jason David to a cover 2 team?

Any other players you think a team may take as value for a player they likely would get nothing for next year?

Stinch>Bullocks>David

Everyone saw David getting toasted this year, hell a lot of them were doing the toasting, so I don't see why they would trade for him.

Stinch is depth on most other teams, same for Bullocks, and David is only depth on 43 cover 2 teams, which aren't alot.

Stinch is widely considered a solid starter, as is Nesbit (but he's a UFA)

Bullocks is also young and teams could feel he just needs a change of scenery

There is no hope for David though... I doubt we could get a 7th lol

If they have trade value, chances are we don't want to get rid of them. This isn't a deep team...

Stinch is the only person that realistically is of value to anyone, and I wouldnt mind seeing him get traded.

Reasons being:

teams are always looking for starting tackles!

Do i like stinch?

Yes, I do. I think he is more than servicable at RT. He may not be the best, but he is far from the worst. Overall, i like his attitude and him as a player.

Why do I want him traded?

He only has one year left on his current deal, and I dont think the Saints will be able to resign him after next season. A free agent tackle with 3 years starting experience and so far 2 of those years that offensive line has been at the top of the league in terms of protecting the QB (no matter what your theory may be about thier protection, they are still at the top.)

The Saints have a couple of Tackles waiting in the wings and now is as good a time as any to have them step up. Stinch is the only person, IMO, that is expendable on the Saints team and has signifigant value.

Personally If I was the GM I would want to make real sure that Will Smith's 09 contract demands aren't going to be fantasy land - if there's little chance of coming to terms with him, I'd stick him on the trading block now and get the best price possible for him.

I don't want to lose our best defender under any circumstances, but if he's gonna walk on a free (or potentially sulk as a franchise player for a year and then walk) there's little point in keeping him.

The FO must have a pretty good idea if they can afford him (and if they haven't they should all be fired) If he's gonna ask for too much then I'd be shopping him now. You'd have no shortage of 1st round pick offers for a proven player like Smith and there's always the chance of bringing in a decent replacement.

Why would someone want to create another need by trading away a starter on a team that needs talent and depth across the board in the trenches and on defense?

Stinch is a very capable starter...he starts for the majority of teams...

If you have dpeth at a position you hopefully are gaining much more than you are losing by trading players. There is a fine line of getting maximum value out of a player and that not nly means on the field but in shuffleing the roster.
