The New Orleans Saints are quite familiar with the division-rival Carolina Panthers, but there will be a new wrinkle in Thursday night's game.

The Panthers placed punter Andy Lee on injured reserve and signed Michael Palardy, a left-footed replacement.

Lee, a longtime punter for the San Francisco 49ers, was in his first season with the Panthers and kicked right-footed punts to the Saints in Week 6. In that game rookie Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis returned a punt 59 yards, the team's longest of the season.

As the Saints prepare for their game at Bank of America Stadium on Thursday at 8:25 p.m., they have to work on catching left-footed punts, which they'll see from Palardy.
