New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will undergo surgery on his injured right hand and likely miss six weeks, according to multiple reports.

ESPN and NFL Network first reported the news Monday morning, with NFL Network adding that Brees tore a ligament in his right thumb.

Brees suffered the injury early in the Saints' 27-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday when he was hit on the hand by Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Teddy Bridgewater took over for Brees and is expected to be the Saints' starting quarterback moving forward.

It's immediately unclear whether the Saints will look to place Brees on injured reserve, which could affect the timetable for his return.
