The New Orleans Saints climb to the top of the Power Rankings this week after decimating the Detroit Lions behind Drew Brees’s 6 touchdown passes.

The in Week 1 lied in the NFC as they claim the top three spots heading into the second week of football.

1. New Orleans Saints (1-0-0 ATS) - - The line was 13 ½ and they beat the Lions by 18, 45 to 27. It should have been worse, but the Saints defense let some things happen. New Orleans covered the spread and beat up the Lions while committing three turnovers. That’s quality!

2. Dallas Cowboys (1-0-0 ATS) - - It them a while but once Dallas got it going they seemed to really get in a groove and played some good football. The Cowboys started the season out right by covering a 4 ½ spread by +8 ½ points.

3. Seattle Seahawks (1-0-0 ATS) - - Seattle showed that it might be the most improved team in the NFL in 2009 by covering a 7 points spread by +21 points. They shut out the St. Louis Rams, 28 to 0.

4. New York Jets (1-0-0 ATS) - - As 4 ½ point underdogs in Houston, not much was expected of the Jets and rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez on the road against what we thought was a good Texans team. The Jets didn’t get the memo when destroying the spread by +21 ½ points when beating the Texans 24 to 7.

5. Atlanta Falcons (1-0-0 ATS) - - Favored by 4 points at home, the Falcons won the way nobody expected, with their defense, and beat the Miami Dolphins 19 to 7 for a +8 victory over the spread.

6. Baltimore Ravens (1-0-0 ATS) - - The defense didn’t look that good, but the Ravens offense did what it had to do to win the ball game. The problem is that Baltimore only covered the 13 point spread by +1. Still, if they can get the defense together, then they will be very, very tough against the spread in future games.

7. Minnesota Vikings (1-0-0 ATS) - - They were playing the Cleveland Browns, but they looked good. The Vikings got their running game going and when they do that it’s tough to get close to them. A 34 to 20 victory over the Browns showed that.

8. Philadelphia Eagles (1-0-0 ATS) - - As 1 point favorites on the road, the Eagles won by 28 for a +27 victory over the spread. Sounds nice, but the truth is that Philadelphia got lucky after Jake Delhomme, Carolina’s quarterback, melted down.

9. San Francisco 49’ers (1-0-0 ATS) - - The 49’ers didn’t look great but they pulled off a major upset by berating the Arizona Cardinals straight up at over +200 odds. They also covered +9 over the online betting spread.

10. Green Bay Packers (1-0-0 ATS) - - Yes, Jay Cutler helped them by throwing 4 picks, but they were only favored by 4 ½ points over Chicago and ended up winning 21 to 15 for a +1 ½ over the betting line.

I just don't know what to say......

not CBS, NFL or Fox of course but whatever...

Totally bogus -- the guy has the Seahawks at #3 and the Steelers down at #20.

They are ranked #1 ATS

Against the Spread

Notice Jacksonville is 1-0 and not 0-1

The quality of the ranking is in the commentary... It should have been worse, but the defense let some things happen..... it was special teams.... Come on!

The fact that we gave up 27 points and STILL covered a 13 point spread (which is the rough equivalent of one of those 33 point, Florida v. Georgia Southern type spreads), is an amazing feat.

From a gambling perspective.

Not that I gamble.

Or that there's anything wrong with gambling.

For fun.
