Because they had gone into their first real tailspin of the season in losing three of their previous four games, the Saints might have been viewed by some as a pretender rather than a contender.

But that was before Sunday's 31-13 trouncing of the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome, a game that stamped the Saints (7-4) as a legitimate threat to make the postseason for the first time since 2000.

Considering they'd fallen from a 5-1 start to 6-4 going and into a first-place tie in the NFC South going into the matchup with the Falcons, it was easy to see why the doubters were starting to be heard.

Luckily, the Saints knew there was no reason to start hanging their heads after back-to-back error-filled losses -- especially with the Falcons, who had three games in a row themselves, awaiting them.

"Some people thought the magic had run out on both teams," said Saints running back Deuce McAllister, who rushed for 71 yards and touchdowns of one and nine yards. "We knew we had to get a 'W,' but I don't think that we were desperate yet as far as the team was concerned."
