-Saints quarterback Drew Brees was named to The Associated Press' All-Pro team Monday, becoming the first Saints player at the position to earn the honor in the 40-year history of the franchise.
Brees edged Manning in a 25-24 vote to earn a spot on the first team, marking the first time since 2002 Manning did not make the first team.
"It's a great honor," said Brees, who led the NFL with 4,418 passing yards. "I assumed Peyton Manning had that one locked up for five years straight. I'm flattered, but it's obviously been a goal of mine. It feels great to accomplish that, but we have to keep working."
Brees last month became only the second Saints quarterback to be selected to the Pro Bowl. He joined Archie Manning, who was chosen to the all-star game in 1978 and '79.
