With DT Hollis Thomas returning this week after a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's steroids policy, the Saints will have to make a move to open a roster spot for the 11-year veteran.
Coach Sean Payton said Wednesday the team, which returns to work Thursday for weightlifting and running sessions before getting back on the practice field Friday, would have some time to make a decision on the roster spot.
Payton said a decision likely would come by Monday with the team beginning full-scale preparations for its divisional playoff game the weekend of Jan. 13-14 on Tuesday.
The Saints also may bring back K Billy Cundiff, who was waived last week when the team had to sign another player to add depth for the game with the Panthers because so many veterans were rested.
