NEW ORLEANS -- Months before the 2013 season starts, the Saints have found a way to tighten their financial belt without loosing their britches.
The Saints have reportedly restructured contracts with several of their top playmakers -- on offense, receiver Marques Colston and guards Jahri Evans and Ben Grubbs and on defense, linebackers Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne.
While more cost-cutting moves are ahead, the Saints have showcased not only their level of fiscal understanding but their players have displayed a willingness to work through difficult times. It's all in an effort to trim next season's salary cap near the estimated ceiling of $122 million without breaking up what was - before last season's miserable 7-9 finish - a championship-contending locker room.
